Shapira “won” the debate, in the sense that he was more persuasive to me than I was to him. But really, it was more of a classic Socratic debate, where the goal was to increase our knowledge and come to a consensus rather than to show off by one-upping each other. So in that sense, I’d say we both won.
After talking with Shapira, my P(doom) is substantially higher than it was previously, though still not nearly as high as Shapira’s 50%. I’ll probably publish an article in the near future detailing exactly which of his arguments were most persuasive to me. But in the meantime, I recommend watching the debate. It was an interesting conversation, and you can see my thought process play out in real time.
